In March 2015, I served as a panelist speaking with graduate students at the University of Rhode Island about what to do with an advanced degree in English if you don't intend to teach.

With a dwindling number of tenure-track positions available in the United States, programs like these have become quite popular. I also spoke at Roger Williams University for an Undergraduate Colloquium on October 28, 2015.

These programs include advice on translating traditional curricula vitae, which prioritize lists of classes taught and conferences attended, into resumes that detail specific skill sets. I spoke about how to leverage the skills gained in an English Literature graduate program to the publishing industry and emphasized the requirement to continually gain new skills, especially in such a rapidly changing industry.

Just before the panel began.
